Jim Murray

This week Edge is introducing Barrett to his favourite programmes and first up is the brilliant Spaced. Simon Pegg's character is graphic artist and comic book geek Tim, and his doodling's are so good it must be down to inherent laziness that he hasn't set the comic art world alight. The wonderful art in Spaced is thanks to Jim Murray and Jason Brashill, graphic artists both of 2000AD fame. We love this from Jim Murray 'Batman Judge Dredd Die Laughing' comic cover, and he also does some pretty amazing fantasy stuff so check it out here...

Sailor Jerry

Sexy girls, good rum and great tattoos, sounds like Edge's ideal weekend away. We have been reminded of the tattoo designs of the late, great Norman Collins, aka Sailor Jerry, by discovering the tasty rum created in his memory. The ex-Navy man set up shop in Honolulu in the 1930s, and his artwork is still incredibly popular today. Find out more about his life and see more of his amazing work here. And check out Sailor Jerry Rum, and what is fast becoming the hippest liquor on the block here.

Ophelia Fancy

We are just loving the underwear from Ophelia Fancy. The handmade and couture vintage inspired lingerie is just dreamy. Handmade in the highest quality materials they are a real treat, and these Christmas pudding nipple pasties are so much fun. We borrowed a set of Ophelia Fancy's undies for our Station Magazine shoot from the wonderful boudoir boutique Bordello, and if you like a bit of luxury sexy you must shop this Shoreditch gem, and guarantee yourself a very Merry Christmas.

Put the 8th December in your diaries now people, it's the Edge and Barrett Christmas knees up, and launch of Station Magazine: Issue 2. We have drinks, dancing, djs, good-looking people, party animals and more. Join us to celebrate what has been an amazing year, new ventures, new friends and a new little magazine. All together now..."So here it is Merry Christmas..."

Andre Paul Pinces

New discoveries today include the horribly hip Canadian photographer Andre Paul Pinces...we love his collection of fashion, still life, portrait and personal photographs on his blog. Some trendy, some retro, some beautiful, some bold. We like. Take some time to look at more here. We came across Andre's name on past WGSN tweets, they know a good story and a good name to drop. We also checked out WGSN's blog, definately worth a gander, written by Content Director, fashion insider and trendspotter Juliet Warkentin, so get in the know here.

Under The Sea

Today we took a break and headed to the SeaLife Centre on the south bank for some under the sea fun and inspiration. Our favourite section was the Coral Reef - the fluidity, colours and patterns - we could have stared for hours. We now crave the world of the big blue, from the kitsch of tropical fish to the dark mood of the sharks. Big well done to Disney for re-branding the Clownfish, they have won the hearts of the next generation, and Nemo translates into every language. Get down there yourself on a quiet midweek trip and be reminded of the power of mother nature, or check out the wonderful work of photographer Tim Laman (see above) for an instant hit.

Hank Haint

Edge and Barrett were very excited to receive Hank Haint's 4 track demo this morning, sent by the man himself for our perusal, and what a fantastic sound it is. We also love the silk screen hand made packaging and flyer with Hank's own brilliant illustration. Check out one man band Hank Haint's MySpace here, and if you like buy here. We want to know more and feel a Station feature coming on....

The Jellies

At the moment Edge and Barrett are using their 'spare' time to work on their new project - The Jellies. A completely new concept of illustration and storytelling, this one is a helluva lot of work, but involves lots of dark fun for the whole family. The way of the jellies is the only way...

Matchbox Design

Over the weekend we were thrilled to come across a fab (mostly American) matchbook collection from a charity shop in Kent. Edge and Barrett love a matchbox, they are such a sign of the design times, the possibilities are endless, and they are so dinky. Check out The Book of Matchbox Labels for some great inspiration.

Hattie Newman

Back in work mode after a manic weekend living it up in Victoria Park, and shooting our latest fashion story for Station Magazine (watch this space...) our attention has been drawn to the illustrator and set designer Hattie Newman. Hattie's work is wonderfully colourful and jolly, which is what we all need on a Monday. Check our her latest work on her blog here. This image is Hattie's work for famed jelly makers Bompas & Parr.

Chrisitan Louboutin

In the Ladybird edition of The Elves and The Shoemaker there was a pair of shoes in shade of pink that made me (Barrett) go slightly nuts. A very specific shade of pink. Whenever I see this colour I instantly have a love for whatever it adorns. I also love lairy gold. When these two are thrown together I get palpitations. Now I have always loved a classic Louboutin, but never been one for a WAG shoe. There is something about this one though. Maybe I will order a pair from Barney's with all the money I have saved in buying our mags from Bromley market. The master has spoken, pink and gold, pink and gold...

Rene & Radka

Magazine bargains are always good for Edge and Barrett, otherwise we could actually bankrupt ourselves at Borders, so on a little sojourn to the magazine stall at Bromley market today (3 glossies for £2!) we came across a recent Zoom magazine featuring the wonderful work of Parisian photographers Rene & Radka. This image took my breath away. Rene & Radka are known for their startlingly different perceptions of children, creating dramatic photographic results. Must see.

Design Council: The Power of Branding

No one knows the power of the brand more than Edge and Barrett, branding is as important as product, if not more...a good product with bad branding won't sell, but cold tea in a coke bottle would. We found a great little taster of an article on the power of branding on the Design Council's website, have a read, have a think, and if you dream of branding a major holiday, get in touch. If Coke can do it so can you, all you have to do is believe.

We are thrilled to announce that the illustrator Martin Wollerstam is working on a bespoke piece especially for Station Magazine, due out in December. In the mean time gorge yourself on his work here. Martin also produces a fantastic online picture based zine, check it out here.

Station Magazine: Design Blogs

We have been so pleased with the response to Station Magazine, new contributors and fans are coming in thick and fast. Station has also been noticed by the design world, very exciting. Dirty Mouse, Bitique and TypoJungle have all given us a mention...cheers to you. To see the Station Magazine layout check out the website or Edge and Barrett's portfolio.

Jessica Hische

Every where we look at the moment we see type. Bold type, funny type, and wonderfully pretty type like this from the fantastic typographer and illustrator Jessica Hische. This is taken from her blog Daily Drop Cap, one design for every working day. See more from Jessica on her website here.
